Save Our Local Hospital Services (SOLHS) was due to hold a protest rally on Saturday, but called it off because of the snow.

The group is fighting plans by the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust to change services at Dewsbury and District Hospital.

The proposals include downgrading A&E, and moving some maternity and children’s services to Wakefield.

A demonstration will now be held outside Dewsbury Town Hall on Saturday April 20 at noon.

SOLHS organiser Paul Wheelhouse said “I was hoping on Friday that the snow was going to continue to melt and that the next batch of forecasted snow was going to miss Dewsbury, but alas it was not to be.”

He said the group contacted as many people as possible when the decision was taken to postpone, and some steering committee members went into town to meet anyone who turned up.

The next steering committee meeting is at Dewsbury Women’s Health Centre, 7 Wellington Street, on Tuesday April 9.
