Mirfield Rotary is looking for four young people to take part in a week of intense leadership training to help improve their future prospects.

Two of the four will attend the week at Hebden Hey, while two will have their training on a sailing boat off the North Shields coast.

Organiser Sara Duffett says: “These fun-filled programmes offer the leaders of the future a chance to get a head start at an early age.

“We hope to sponsor four local youths for these events. Mirfield Rotary has for many years sponsored candidates to join these programmes.

“Without exception they have come back and reported that the experience has been life-changing.”

Applications are due over the next few days, and interviews will take place in January 2015.

The project is funded by the Mirfield Educational Charity, a group which was set up to help young people in Mirfield.

Dane Riley, who took part in the youth sail programme for last year’s intake, said: “I have learnt to take responsibility for myself, and gained in confidence.

“I would recommend the course to anyone.” The search is now on for four new youths for these courses. If you would like to know more about the scheme or are interested in applying for next year’s course contact organiser Sara Duffett on 0785 7602537 or email: [email protected].
