Cadets boost coffers

Dewsbury Army Cadets was in need of some new equipment, so decided to contact Coun Paul Kane (Lab, Dews East).

David Gray, from the Dewsbury detachment, said: “He was a cadet at our detachment in his youth, and he was over the moon that he was able to point us in the direction of a grant.”

The cadets got £1,500 from Kirklees Council, through the Dewsbury Endowed Foundation Trust, which promotes the social and physical training of young people.

The detachment has bought new equipment that the cadets can use to complete their Duke of Edinburgh courses, such as sleeping bags, tents, compasses and waterproof clothing.

The equipment got its first use when a group of cadets took it to Weardale Outdoor Centre in County Durham, to complete their Duke of Edinburgh expedition.
