Caroline Walker, who is based in the Dewsbury depot but covers all of the Arriva routes in North Kirklees, has made plans to cycle 250km through Vietnam to Cambodia to raise money for a series of cancer charities.

She said: “Some of the family and friends I know have had such a terrible time and I feel so sad from watching them suffer and not being able to do anything.

“They have such dignity, only concerned about how everyone else feels, and I want to help.”

Caroline, 36, will undertake the women-only journey, from Ho Chi Minh City to Angkor Wat, next year and will pay for her own flights, food and water.

“From the information I have we’ll be out in the country – it’s hardly going to be a four star hotel.

“And they have advised us to take our own toilet roll!”

In the meantime she has been preparing for the various injections and inoculations she has to face before the trip.

“I’m not really looking forward to that part, but I am looking forward to the challenge. It will be a life changing experience.”

The money raised will be split between Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.

Anyone who wants to donate to the cause can visit www.justgiving.com/drivercal or text the code VLHW52 followed by the amount to donate, with no spaces, to 70020.
