The pipe, which runs under the bridge decking on Whitcliffe Lane, will be replaced with more robust material.

The three-week closure is to protect the safety of workers and drivers and starts on Monday, July 21.

Traffic will be diverted around Whitcliffe Road, Turnsteads Avenue, Whitechapel Road, Bradford Road and Scott Lane.

This will be fully signalled at the time.

Ross Housley, Yorkshire Water project manager, said: “The water pipe has burst several times in the past five years and we hope this project will reduce the risk of that happening in the future, meaning we can provide a better service to our customers.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to residents and road-users”.

The work will be carried out by engineering specialists Morrison Utility Services on behalf of Yorkshire Water.

Working hours will be between 7.30am and 6pm.
