Burlgars attack pregnant woman

Samina Bibi screamed when she heard voices and was confronted by three people demanding money and gold.

They had cut the phone line to her house in Tweedale Gardens, Westtown, and neighbouring homes and turned around a security light before smashing a window. The burglars beat Mrs Bibi, who is seven months pregnant, and ransacked the home she shares with her husband.

“They said they wanted money and gold,” said Mrs Bibi, 22. “Two were searching the place while one held me. They trashed the place.”

Neighbours heard her cry out and phoned police during the incident on June 4. But when officers knocked at the door shortly after midnight, the burglars fled with a £9,000 haul of jewellery, money, mobile phones and a satellite navigation system.

“It was my wedding gold which I had got from friends,” said Mrs Bibi. “My mum has passed away and they took a pair of her earrings.”

The group also took the keys to the house, leaving Mrs Bibi trapped inside. She had to call out to police through the letterbox.

Mrs Bibi was taken to hospital so doctors could check her baby had not been harmed, and she had a week off work.

She said: “I think the neighbours were quite shocked at it, that I was at home when I was robbed.

“They’ve been very supportive and I’m very thankful to my neighbour for calling the police.”

The burglars were described as Asian men aged in their mid-teens to mid-20s.

One wore a grey hooded top and blue jeans, a second wore dark clothing and a balaclava, and the third also wore dark clothing.

On Wednesday, a 16-year-old from Dewsbury appeared at Dewsbury Magistrates’ Court charged with burglary and possessing cocaine with intent to supply.

The teenager was remanded in custody to appear in court again next month.
