Burglary gang sentenced after 18 month investigation

The 18-month investigation by detectives from Kirklees CID and Bradford CID centred on burglaries across West Yorkshire between June 2013 and November 2014 in which over a quarter of a million pounds worth of vehicles were stolen.

A number of the vehicles were recovered at ‘chop shops’ across Bradford.

The defendants were:

Kashaf Rashid, 25, of Penfield Grove, Bradford, who pleaded guilty to burglary and handling stolen goods and was sentenced to six years imprisonment.

Fahim Iqbal, 24, of Quarry Road, Dewsbury, who was found guilty of burglary and handling stolen goods and was sentenced to five years and 11 months imprisonment.

Amza Tariq, 18, of Heckmondwicke Road, Dewsbury Moor, who was found guilty of burglary and was sentenced to two years and three months imprisonment.

Sabeel Ayub, 22, of Ravens Lodge, Scout Hill, Dewsbury, who was found guilty of burglary and handling stolen goods and was sentenced to two years and three months imprisonment.

Alexander Mackay, 42, of Springfield Avenue, Batley, who pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods and was sentenced to eight months imprisonment.

Hamza Hussain, 20, of High Street, Thornhill, who pleaded guilty to going equipped to burgle and was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment suspended for two years and 200 hours of community work.

Muzaffer Ayub, 23, of Selbourne Avenue, Dewsbury, who pleaded guilty to going equipped to burgle and was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment suspended for two years and 200 hours of community work.

Harun Nawaz, 21, of Ravens Grove, Scout Hill, Dewsbury, who pleaded guilty to going equipped to burgle and was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment suspended for two years and 200 hours of community work.

Bilal Ali Shah, 19, of Gaythorne Terrace, Bradford, who pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods and was sentenced to eight months imprisonment suspended for two years and 200 hours of community work.

Umar Rashid, 20, of Penfield Grove, Bradford, who pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods and was sentenced to eight months imprisonment suspended for two years and 200 hours of community work.

Detective Constable Seb Morgan, of Kirklees District CID, said: “This operation involved a number of officers from across the two divisions and was assisted massively by telecoms officers and intelligence staff.

“I want to thank every officer and member of staff for their involvement and assistance in the operation which has resulted in some positive sentences at court. This operation has shown that good work between divisions produces results and should send out a message to these individuals and their fellow offending associates.”
