Bulldogs go pink for charities

Batley Bulldogs will wear a pink kit for their clash with rivals Dewsbury Rams in aid of charity.

The club’s fundraising event coincides with their huge derby clash against Dewsbury Rams and will highlight the plight of the many women who are affected by breast cancer.

Beverley Nicholas, chairman Kevin Nicholas’ wife, was diagnosed six years ago and other fans connected to the club have also received the same dreaded news.

The charity drive kicks off with a 10k sponsored walk on Saturday August 16.

The participants will be leaving the Mount Pleasant club at 11am led by the directors and club officials.

After visiting the Tetley’s Stadium, the walkers will return to the Bulldogs’ stadium, where there will be an under-15s girls tournament.

Keeping in with the pink theme, the girls will be competing to win a pink trophy.

A pink pig racing event will also take place from 7pm.

On Sunday August 17, the Bulldogs face fierce rivals Dewsbury Rams at 2pm, where their players will wear their new-look pink strip.

The Bulldogs are appealing to fans of both clubs to turn the Love rugbyleague.com Stadium into a wash of pink on derby day.

Pink t-shirts are available to buy from the club shop.

Mrs Nicholas said: “The fan reaction has been amazing.

“What started out as a little idea has grown into a fantastic fund raiser and I think it will be really special to see the stands full of pink t-shirts this weekend.”
