HIGH street chain WHSmith has abandoned plans to close its biggest Dewsbury store at the end of the month.
The company had blamed the closure on ‘excessive rents’ in the Princess of Wales Precinct.
But today, staff confirmed its precinct branch would stay open.
It follows lengthy talks between WHSmith, precinct owners Ravenhill Estates and Kirklees Council.
Dewsbury MP Simon Reevell had also met with the company to ask them to look for a way to stay in the town.
