BREAKING NEWS: Elderly woman’s home burlged by bogus official

The suspect knocked on the door of the woman’s house in Heybeck Lane, Dewsbury, at 1.30pm yesterday.

She asked him to go around the side of the property, and let him into the house when he said that he had come to check her electricty meter.

As the woman was moving her washing machine to get to the meter, the suspect ran off.

The 90-year-old then found that her purse, which had cash and bank cards in it, had been stolen.

The suspect is a white man in his early twenties, around 5ft 2in to 5ft 4in tall.

He had short light brown hair and was wearing dark clothing.

A police spokesperson said: “People who are approached by workmen or officials at their door are reminded to always ask to see their identification.

“If they are genuine the caller won’t mind you asking and should provide you with a phone number of the company they are working for if you wish to check further.

“If you are still unsure about whether they are genuine then ask them to leave and then contact the police.”
