Birstall firewalkers hot on their heels for charity

A Birstall firm is leading a group of bravehearts in getting their feet burnt for charity tonight (Friday).

Seven employees from web designing company Ascensor, which is based on Oakwell Park Industrial Estate, are taking part in a firewalk to raise money for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

The gruelling task involves walking barefoot across a 20 foot plank of wood that has been burnt to cinders just a couple of hours beforehand.

Around 20 people in total are participating in the event, at Ascensor’s car park on Friday evening, with each entrant aiming to raise around £100 each.

All those participating will undergo two hours of mental training beforehand to help prepare them for the task.

Alex Blythe, marketing assistant at Ascensor, who is taking part himself said: “We’ve done things with ForgetMeNot Hospice before and we saw this as a great opportunity to do something a little bit different and raise a chunk of money in the process. We’re looking forward to it, it looks exciting and very much a challenge of mind over matter.”
