Bethany Mitchell, 16, has spent months organising the gala, which will take place in Crow Nest Park on Sunday, June 23.

It will raise money for charity Once Upon A Smile, which helps both children who have lost a parent and parents who have lost a child.

Bethany, a pupil at Batley Girls’ High School, first became involved with the charity after meeting its founder, Emmerdale actor Danny Miller while on a tour of the soap’s set. Last year she raised £700 with a fancy dress bag pack at Asda, but wanted to do something even bigger this time.

She said: “The charity helps people who have lost their parents or grandparents and when I lost my grandma last year, I felt like I wanted to do something to help. The bag pack last year was great but I wanted to do something a bit more special this time.”

In between revising and sitting her GCSEs, Bethany has organised stalls, a bouncy castle, face painting, games and tombola for the fun day, which will run from 11am to 3pm.

Bethany said: “It’s been really nerve wracking, trying to fit it all in to my spare time, but everything is coming together.

“I’m really looking forward to the day, and want to raise as much money as possible for the charity.”
