Laura Scott and Jodie Wilkinson will be joined by their partners as they attempt the gruelling trek across the Dales, which covers Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent, on Saturday.

Laura, of Grosvenor Road, Batley, was inspired to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Teenage Cancer Trust after the death of her childhood friend Amber Denyer.

She passed away from cancer in April this year, aged 27.

Laura said: “Amber was an amazing person with a huge sense of humour and would ‘get the party started’ so to speak.

“I am not just raising money in memory of people who have spread their wings, but for all those who may need Macmillan to help them through their own illness.”

Jodie, of Chapel Lane, Heckmondwike, will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“I have always had it in my head that I wanted to do something for the charity after the care they gave my grandad, John Wilkinson,” she said.

“The staff do fantastic work. We are all scared and excited and hope we can raise lots for the charities.”

Jodie and Laura’s partners, Jack Hepplewhite and Andrew Baker, will also take part in the challenge.
