Beloved dogs are inspiration behind tales

An author has used memories of walking her beloved dogs as the inspiration for her latest book.

Ann Heward, 61, has just released Sam and Sophie’s Great Adventures, a sequel to her last book about her Labradors, which have since died.

Husband of f43 years John suggested she start writing after expressing an interest and first released The Adventres of Sam and Sophie.

“The people who’ve read the first book, their children have all said, ‘When are you going to do another book Ann?

“I’m excited about this one because it’s more professional, with the publisher and what people are saying about it on Facebook.”

The children’s book, released by Pegasus, features a number of animals like Kevin the Crow and Carol the Cat adventuring with Sam and Sophie.

Traits of the dogs, like chasing kites and crows, have made their way into the work.

Mother-of-two Ann, who is originally from Dewsbury but now lives in Huddersfield, is now accompanied on her walks to places like Pugneys Country Park in Wakefield by Bonny and Sheba – two new black and golden Labradors.
