Organisers said that this weekend’s Batley Beer Festival was the only event of its kind the town had hosted in recent memory.

The beer bash was arranged by Paul Fisher, Anthony Longstaff and their team, who have already established the successful Cleckheaton Beer Festival.

Mr Longstaff said: “We picked this time of year as the nights have grown dark and a Christmas feeling is about to set in.

“It’s the first one I know about, certainly the first one in Batley Town Hall.

“We are targeting a range of people – the seasoned real ale drinkers who might come in the afternoon and anyone who might want to pop in later for the music.”

The festival will feature around 15 ales and nine or 10 ciders, as well as Prosecco and wine.

Music will be provided by bands ranging from rock acts to a 1980s cover outfit.

The lineup will include Ruby Macintosh, Good Night Dakota, Atlanta House, Adorned, MKII and The9zeroes.

Around 400-600 people are expected to pay a visit to the festival throughout the day.

Mr Longstaff said the central location of the town hall was chosen because of the range of other pubs in the centre.

The festival will run from noon-11pm, Saturday November 14 and Sunday November 15 from noon.

Entry is £5 on the door, which includes a glass and a free first drink.

Children with their parents will be welcome until later in the evening.
