Batley bar packs a punch for asthma cause

Boxers are limbering up for a day of charity matches in memory of a 13-year-old who died following an asthma attack.

Around 10 fights will be held at the Players Bar in Commercial Street, Batley, on June 29 to raise money for Asthma UK.

Paul Charlton’s daughter Jessica died last September and Bruntcliffe School, where she was a pupil, held a sponsored walk to raise money for Asthma UK in her memory.

Now Paul, with friends Jordan Barnett and Jordan Schofield, is continuing the fundraising run in his daughter’s memory.

He said: “People don’t realise how serious asthma is until something like this happens.

“We need to raise awareness and raise as much money as we can so Asthma UK can do more.”

Jordan Barnett, owner of Players Bar, above the O2 shop, said more than 20 fighters had signed up the event so far and the event would have an official boxing MC.
