Jo Maltby, co-founder of the awards scheme, said: “Kate was a true heroine and if we can find someone with a pinch of her devotion and intrepid passion they will be very special indeed. Our awards celebrate all that is good in Yorkshire and Kate was as good as it gets.”

The Yorkshire Choice Awards, which were launched by Ms Maltby (#wetherbyhour) and Melanie Malcolm (of Yorkshire Ladies Links), recognise local people and businesses.

The first year saw 88,000 people voting for the winners. In 2017, the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund Charity will be the charity partner and the awards scheme will help raise money for equipment that could prove the difference between life and death at rugby clubs across the UK.

Nominations for all categories should be submitted online at www.yorkshirechoiceawards.co.uk before October 2016.

The ceremony will take place at Leeds United on April 1. The nominees, their friends and family will be invited to attend the ceremony.
