David Shelton of Cross Bank Road, Carlinghow, pleaded guilty at Calderdale Magistrates to three offences at the flats last July.

The flats are home to mainly elderly people and the court heard Shelton caused major problems with loud music and shouting, bullying and intimidating behaviour, verbal abuse, threats, and alleged vandalism.

He was jailed for 18 weeks on March 6 and given a two year ASBO to control his behaviour on his release.

Kirklees Cabinet member Coun Jean Calvert said: “The Kirklees Anti-Social Behaviour Partnership worked closely with residents, police and the council’s Noise Nuisance team to provide support to them and enable them to effectively report the incidents.

“The partnership also tried to work with Mr Shelton with referrals to support services but to no avail as his behaviour did not improve. We would prefer to help people resolve problems without resorting to the courts but found no alternative in this case.”
