Armed robbery attempt at KFC in Birstall

TWO men, armed with a handgun and a knife, threatened a security guard delivering cash to KFC in Birstall.

The men, who were wearing balaclavas, demanded the cash box, but left empty handed just before 12.30pm today (Monday).

The suspects fled the scene in a white BMW. Police cars and the helicopter were searching the area in the afternoon.

A police spokesman said no-one was hurt during the attempted robbery, and nothing was stolen.

The fried chicken restaurant, at Birstall’s junction 27, is believed to have closed for a short while.

Witnesses are asked to call Dewsbury CID via 101.
