She said: “I have been working for the council since June last year. Everyone is friendly and supportive and I am learning new skills all the time.

“Being an apprentice means I can earn a wage while gaining a qualification and developing the skills I need to progress in the future – I would encourage all young people to consider applying.”

Coun Peter McBride, cabinet member for place, said: “The council is committed to providing apprenticeships and I am delighted that we are able to provide over 30 positions this year.

“Apprenticeships are a fantastic way for young people to start a new career as well as providing the council and Kirklees with a skilled workforce for the future.”
