Animal lover’s top of the crops stunt

A RESCUE centre volunteer is growing a mane of hair in preparation for a sponsored head shaving.

Phil Geering will be parting with his locks in December to raise cash for new shelters at Morley Exotic Animal Rescue.

The 57-year-old from Ravensthorpe said: “We’ve got just about enough money to complete up to the roof so I’m hoping to raise the last bit.

“I suppose you could say I’m taking my roof off to give one to the animals.”

Mr Geering started volunteering at the centre in Gildersome last year after meeting founders Heather and Alan Hewitt.

“I’ve always loved animals but this is something else,” he said.

“They’ve got upwards of 100 animals across 40 species. Most of them still live in the house so it’s a bit mad.

“The first time I went up for a coffee, I put the mug on the floor and two racoons walked by!”

To donate, send cheques payable to Morley Exotic Animal Rescue to Phil Geering, 24 Myrtle Road, Ravensthorpe, WF13 3AP.
