An oportunity knocks for Judith

A hard of hearing student from Batley has secured a full time job with Yorkshire Housing.

Judith Gill studied at Specialist Communications College Doncaster before being appointed as an administrator for the Yorkshire based housing company following a successful work placement with the office administration team.

Judith said: “I’ve done work experience before but I have found it difficult to get paid work in the past, although I can do sign language and can lip read.”

Judith now undertakes daily administration tasks as part of her new job.

She said: “The people at Yorkshire Housing are nice and I like the teamwork, I like working here and feel like I am treated with respect.”

Yorkshire Housing is a registered social landlord providing more than 16,000 affordable homes throughout Yorkshire.

Emma Cavanagh, Office Manager at Yorkshire Housing, who line manages Judith said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Judith, she has proved to be an excellent addition to the team. She is enthusiastic and has excellent organisational skills.

It is important people are valued for the talent they have and that they are given support to overcome any barriers which may prevent them from fulfilling their potential.”

Alan Robinson, executive principal at Doncaster Deaf Trust, which includes the college where Judith completed her courses said that he was “thrilled” for Judith.
