Running for over 20 years, the awards celebrate the work clubs, groups and organisations across the UK for promoting the power of sport and recreation.

Ready Steady Active works very closely with young girls and women from Muslim and South Asian communities who can face significant barriers to getting involved in physical activity.

The programme offers open and accessible sport and physical activity opportunities to everyone in the local community and aims to help participants build confidence and skills in competitive and non-competitive environments.

One of the success stories of the programme has been the local community rounders tournament which has engaged more than 60 women and girls.

Rashida Salloo, founder of Ready Steady Active, said: “Winning the Added Social Value award is amazing and has given us the reassurance that the work we are doing is making a real difference, not just to the people who are participating, but throughout the community.

“We will use the prize money to increase the opportunities for more people to join in, train volunteers, increase the size of our sport leagues and continue working to bring people together from different backgrounds through physical activities.”
