Action on remains of Thornhill’s medieval hall

A CLEAN-up has been signalled for a medieval hall in Dewsbury.

Kirklees Council is to record and conserve the Grade II listed remains at Thornhill Hall, which dates back to the 13th century.

The work is being done ahead of a bid for Lottery money.

The remains are at risk of further deterioration and the whole site is overgrown, dark and unappealing.

The council says investment is needed to cut anti-social behaviour and encourage visitors but it doesn’t have enough cash to pay for major improvements. So a bid for nearly £50,000 will be made in 2014-16.
