A taste of engineering life

School pupils have been given a taste of the engineering industry with Cleckheaton firm Flexitallic.

The sealing products company took on a group of pupils from St John Fisher school in Dewsbury in a six week internship programme where they were given experience in various aspects of engineering and business.

They spent time in the research and development, compliance, and human resources departments.

The company offers the internship to encourage careers in engineering.

It works with a number of West Yorkshire schools and also offers internships to university students.

Pupil Ziyaad Patel, 16, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Flexitallic.

“Getting the opportunity to work across multiple departments meant I could get a good idea of how suited I might be for a future in engineering.”

Dene Halkyard, Flexitallic’s applications engineering manager, said: “We have had some fantastic feedback from various employees who have worked closely with our interns.

“They have all shown great enthusiasm in their time here, and a range of skills which suggest a capacity for working in engineering.

“It’s very exciting to get a glimpse of possible engineers of the future.”
