43 job losses as Synthomer Batley set to close

More than 40 workers will lose their jobs at the end of the year as a Batley chemical plant closes its doors.

Synthomer Ltd has announced plans to shut down its Batley site in George Street, making all 43 employees redundant.

The closure is part of the company’s plans to restructure and invest in its UK operations, including a £7m investment in projects at its largest production site, on the Humber Bank in north east Lincolnshire.

Batley site manager Martin Klopsch said the closure was “regrettable” but added that employees’ hard work would be recognised in a “meaningful way”.

The Batley site is the smallest of Synthomer’s UK factories and produces acrylic and vinyl acetate dispersions, used to make industrial adhesives and paints.
