Sounds of the season

Cornet player Emma Walsh will feel quite at home when the Hammonds Saltaire brass band stages its fourth Christmas concert in Batley Town Hall on Saturday December 3.

For Emma was brought up on the Manor Farm estate at Soothill and was introduced to brass band instruments while a pupil at Lydgate Junior School.

Now she lives in Woolley Grange near Wakefield with her husband, baritone playing Michael, and, as such, they make up the only married couple in the band.

Emma said she was looking forward to the Batley date because it gave her the chance to come to her home town, marvel at the way audiences had increased over the past few years and enjoy their generous applause!

The band, conducted by Morgan Griffiths from Mirfield, will be playing lots of Christmas numbers including Midnight Sleighride by Prokofiev, Frosty the Snowman by Nelson, Caribbean Christmas by Smith and A Christmas Fantasy by Lanford.

Tickets priced at £10, or £8 for concessions, can be obtained from Batley or Dewsbury Town Halls, Kirklees box office on 01924 324501 or from Ted Griffiths on 01924 478933.
