It gave listeners a hint of what to expect from Dig For The Promise, the second album by the Little Unsaid, which comes out on Monday.

The record is already available to stream online and combines “found sounds” taken from recordings of the streets of London, with strings, brass, electronics, guitar, piano and John’s stunning vocals.

It was mixed by Graeme Stewart – a long-time collaborator with Radiohead guitarist and award-winning arranger Jonny Greenwood – and deals with John’s feelings about the three years he has spent living away from home in London.

Speaking about his time in the city, John talks about a mixture of fear and loneliness battling with the excitement of living in the nation’s capital, and the beauty of the place.

“Some of that sounds pretty dark, I know!” John said. “But the whole album is meant to be a sort of celebration of how absurd life can seem in a place like London – a resolve to just dance like a crazy fool in the face of a world that you can’t make much sense of.”

To pay for the recording of the album, John used the PledgeMusic website to ask his fans for donations in exchange for exclusive gifts.

In the end, John smashed his fundraising target thanks to his fans paying for prizes that ranged from signed CDs and lyric sheets to songs written especially for the fans making the pledges.

Now at the tail-end of a UK tour, John is looking ahead to a summer of festival shows.
