Karen Wright: At long last we could hitch up our caravan and escape to the coast

I am back from my first caravan trip of the year.

Just like everyone else, for months the furthest I have been each week has been to the supermarket. The first day we could travel saw me down at the caravan storage yard, hitching up and driving to the coast. I love the sea, the vastness of it, the smell of it, the sounds of it and the intriguing thought that far away lands are beyond the horizon. We were heading for Brighton so that we could finally spend some time with the grandchildren.

When we go to Brighton we always book in on the Caravan and Motorhome Club site near the marina. It is a brilliant location for getting around and about, easy to walk to town, regular buses too or you can drive inland a little and enjoy the South Downs.

We were reunited with the family in a playground close to the site. It was also my birthday, so there were presents, wine and a cake which my four-year-old granddaughter Silke had a hand in making. When we returned to our caravan we were surprised by a visitor.

Not a human, as currently visitors are not able to come onto the site, it was a fox!

The fox just appeared and sat very close to us, its beady eyes staring right at us. Foxy made an appearance every evening and seemed happy to pose for photographs. We spent four days in Brighton, we were outside all the time and as the weather was fine, we enjoyed picnics in the parks and on the beach.

On our return journey we pitched up two nights at the club site very close to Blenheim Palace. So close that you can walk there in ten minutes. Our youngest daughter and her boyfriend live near Oxford, so they drove to the nearest village to the caravan site and we joined them for lunch in a pub beer garden.

It was just fantastic; we were blessed with a warm sunny day and just to enjoy a meal and a cold drink with people all around was such a joy.
