Dedicated website launched to family members with special educational needs and disabilities

The new Local Offer has been developed by the council alongside vital partners, including the families who will use the website the most.

It brings together information and advice, fun and accessible activities, shows the variety of organisations who provide different services and is a one-stop-shop for supporting children and young people with SEND.

Councillor Carole Pattison, Cabinet member for Learning, Aspiration and Communities, said: “It is a council priority that we help all children to fulfil their potential and enjoy the best start in life. Those with SEND often face many challenges and can benefit from more support than their peers.

“We’re excited to launch the new Local Offer website so that families can access lots of really useful information and find out about services and activities in the area. This will make a real difference to thousands of families and I would like to thank all of our partners for their fantastic input.

“Ultimately, the Local Offer is about improving young lives and making sure the needs of our families are being met. There are many organisations helping children and young people with SEND, so please check out the website and make the most of what’s on offer.”

To develop the new resource, the council has been working closely with PCAN (Parent of Children with Additional Needs), KIAS (Kirklees Information Advice and Support), plus parents, children with SEND and a range of professionals.
