From the grand Regent Picture House in Batley to the treasured Savoy in Cleckheaton, the area has loved, and ultimately lost, a number of movie theatres over the years.
We have travelled around Dewsbury, Batley, Mirfield and Spen to see where just some of our former cinemas used to stand.
Which ones do you remember?
With thanks to cinematreasures.org for some of the information attached to these lost theatres.
1. The Picture House, Dewsbury
Orginally opened as The Picture House on the junction of Northgate and Market Place, Dewsbury, in 1913. Had other names before ending as Apollo Cinema, which closed in 1993. Although the auditorium was demolished, its facade remains. Photo: Adam Cheshire / National World

The Pioneer Building, on Northgate, Dewsbury, is a Grade II listed building which is now home to Kirklees College. The Pioneer Hall, which was located on the second floor of the historic building which opened in 1879, was known as Pioneer Pictures and as the Pioneer Theatre during its time as an entertainment venue. The Playhouse Theatre, on Crackenedge Lane, Dewsbury, opened in 1931 before being renamed ABC in 1963. The cinema closed in 1970 before transforming into a bingo hall. The building closed in the late 1990s before being demolished in 2002. A Wilko's store was built on the site, which is now currently empty after its closure last September.
