Kirklees covid infection rate: Numbers increase again as infection rate reaches 300

The latest data shows that in the last seven days 300 per 100,000 people in Kirklees tested positive for COVID-19, compared to last week when it was 255 per 100,000 people.

Although Kirklees is no longer currently within the 30 local authorities with the highest rates in the country, the latest data shows there were 1,120 positive COVID-19 cases in the borough over the last seven days with at least six cases in every ward.

Rachel Spencer-Henshall, Strategic Director for Public Health at Kirklees Council said: “The data does indicate that the level of increase is lower than it was last week and it’s a credit to everyone for doing your bit and keeping each other safe. If we keep this up, I’m sure we’ll see rates come down.

“Infection rates are still rising, however, so it’s never been more important to do everything you can to stay safe and prevent the spread of the virus.

“The Government introduced a new Tier system for restrictions last week and I urge everyone to take note of them and follow them as I know you will. I also want to remind everyone that, as well as following all the latest Government restrictions and guidance, doing the basics remains absolutely crucial.

“Social distancing from those outside of your household, wearing a face covering, washing your hands regularly and isolating if you have symptoms all significantly reduce your chances of being infected or infecting someone else.

“Over the last seven days, there has been at least six positive cases in every single ward in Kirklees. Wherever you live, you need to do everything you can to protect yourself and others.”

Kirklees is currently within Tier 2 of the new COVID-19 restrictions system introduced on Wednesday 14 October.

This means that in Kirklees you can meet with people from other households outdoors – including private gardens and public places – in groups of up to six.

However, you cannot meet with people from other households indoors – unless they are in your support bubble. This includes in private homes, hospitality settings such as pubs and restaurants and other public indoor places.

Pubs, bars and restaurants can remain open subject to the 10pm curfew already in place.
