Kirklees Council received thousands of applications for children starting reception or transferring to junior or middle school for their next stage of their education.

In total, out of the 5970 applications, nearly 95 per cent of children were allocated their first choice school.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Securing a place at a preferred primary school brings real peace of mind for parents and gives children the best possible start to their education.

“Such a high allocation against preference is fantastic news for families, bringing reassurance and enthusiasm ahead of the new school year this September.

“It is a reflection of the strong planning and collaboration across the Kirklees school system to see so many families receiving offers for their first preference.”
