Kirklees College centres re-open after being put into lockdown as a ‘safety precaution’ earlier this morning
Kirklees College has confirmed that its centres have re-opened to students after they were put into lockdown earlier today as a “safety precaution” following advice from police.
The college told students not to attend its sites in Dewsbury and Huddersfield this morning after "information was received”.
Police have been providing safety and security advice and officers have increased high visibility patrols within the district.
A college spokesperson said: “Thank you to all staff and students for working with us during the lockdown period.”

The spokesperson added: “All centres are back open to students and classes will be available for the rest of the day.”
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are aware of emails that have been sent to a number of schools and colleges in Kirklees district.
“We understand that any communication of a threatening nature, particularly within an education setting, will be of concern but would stress that there is currently no intelligence to suggest that there is any credible threat in relation to the messages.
“We are investigating this as a malicious communications offence and making further enquiries into the source of these emails. As part of these enquiries, a 20-year-old man has been arrested from an address in Huddersfield this morning.
“As a precaution, relevant safety and security advice is being provided to schools via local officers.
“We have also increased high visibility patrols within the district to provide further reassurance to our communities.”
