This is how many Kirklees school pupils got their first choice for 2020

In September this year, there will be more than 6,700 children either starting school for the first time or transferring to junior or middle schools in Kirklees.

Councillor Carole Pattison, Cabinet member for Learning, Aspiration and Communities, said: “We’re really pleased to be delivering such great news to so many families. Starting at school, or moving to a different primary school, is always a significant step and there will be thousands of people across the district who are delighted with the outcome they’ve received.

“We want all of our children and young people to enjoy the best start in life and to access high-quality learning. Being able to attend a preferred school in their local community is a vital step at a hugely important time.

“Schools across Kirklees do wonderful work in supporting children and families, not only with educational outcomes but by giving excellent standards of care. Their commitment has been highlighted by the Covid-19 crisis as schools have remained open, including during the Easter holidays, to support the children of key workers and those who are vulnerable.”

In total, there were 6,737 primary school applications for September 2020. All families have been allocated a place and Kirklees Council has matched 92.1 per cent to their first preference, 4.7 per cent to their second preference and 1.5 per cent to their third preference.
