Batley and Spen MP Kim Leadbeater sends ‘massive congratulations’ to students who have received their results today

Ms Leadbeater said: “I’ve met some amazing pupils at schools and colleges across Batley and Spen and I know just how hard A-level, B-Tec and T-level students have been working, often in very difficult circumstances over the past couple of years.

“Massive congratulations to all those who got the grades they were looking for and good luck for the future, whether at university, further education or in the world of work.

“And to those who might be a little disappointed, all your hard work will still have been worthwhile so never give up; with the right personal qualities, mindset and determination there is always a way to get to where you want to be.”

This year, 19 per cent more 18 year olds in the UK have gained a place at university

Today, 425,830 students are celebrating being accepted into university or college, the second highest on record – an increase of 16,870 compared to 2019 (the last year examinations were held).

UCAS chief executive Clare Marchant said: “Congratulations to everyone who has worked incredibly hard and received their results today.

“Throughout this year, there has been much discussion about what the return to examinations would mean for progression to higher education. Today we have seen more students progress compared to the last time students sat exams.

“This year has seen a growth in the number of 18 year olds in the population, which will continue for the remainder of the decade, and creates a more competitive environment for students in the years to come.

“Whilst many will be celebrating today, there will be some who are disappointed. My advice is to take advantage of the wide range of choices on offer, which includes over 27,000 courses in Clearing, along with a range of apprenticeship opportunities.

“UCAS is here to support you; go to ucas.com or speak to a UCAS adviser on the phone or social media.”

Students across Kirklees celebrate their A Level and vocational results

This year hundreds of young people sat their A Level exams at schools and colleges across Kirklees, after not taking place since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Early figures show a pass rate of 99 per cent across the district.

Coun Carole Pattison, cabinet member for learning, aspiration and communities, said: “We’re really proud of students across Kirklees and of their excellent achievements.

“Schools and colleges have done amazing work in supporting students during the disruption of Covid-19 and it’s testament to everyone – teachers, support staff, students and their families – that they have come through with flying colours.

“A Levels and other post-16 pathways take our young people on to the next, exciting stage in their lives.

“We wish them all the very best.

“They are central to supporting a vibrant economy over the years to come and they truly reflect our council priority for young people across Kirklees to aspire and achieve.”

Dewsbury MP Mark Eastwood congratulates students across his constituency

Mr Eastwood said: "Congratulations to all those across Dewbury and Mirfield who have today received their A-Level, T-Level and other vocational results.

“The students receiving their results today are the first group in three years to sit exams and have faced significant disruption to their studies during the pandemic. They should be exceptionally proud of their achievements.

“I would also like to thank all those who helped local students get to this point, including teachers, parents and guardians.

“I wish all students well as they embark on their next moves forward, at a time when there has never been a better range of opportunities for young people."

The Mayor of Kirklees sends his congratulations to students across the district

Coun Masood Ahmed said: “Congratulations to all the students in Kirklees receiving their A Level and BTEC results today.

“Hopefully your hard work and dedication will mean you have achieved the results you wanted.

“If you haven’t, don’t despair as there is plenty of advice and support to help you.

“Good luck to you all with your future plans.”

‘Congratulations to all our students’, says Heckmondwike Grammar school headteacher

Peter Roberts, Heckmondwike Grammar headteacher said: “Congratulations to all our students on achieving outstanding A level results again this year.

“As always, the profile of our grades shows a very strong bias towards the upper range of grades. 82 per cent of the A Level results were at grade C or better and 80 per cent of these grades were either A*, A or B.

“There were 313 A* and A grades altogether, including 58 students that achieved three or more grade A* or A passes.

“Extra special mentions go to Reuben Price who achieved five A* grades in his A Levels and Daniel Damo and Maisy Nichols who achieved four A* grades.

“Further congratulations go to Alina Abbas, Minahil Afzal, Amber Akhtar, Katie Carter, Olivia Germaine, Sama Gorja, Eden Haycock, Umm Kulthoom Kara, Isra Khan, Sophia Mencattelli, Aaliyah Rumana and Caitlin Tansey, who achieved an incredible A* grade in all of their A Levels.

“These superb results reflect the hard work and dedication of our students and staff, and will enable the students to take their next steps with confidence.

“The outcomes in terms of students being placed at universities and high calibre apprenticeships of their choice are exceptionally good this year.”
