A dental practice based in the heart of Leeds city centre is revolutionising oral health education in Yorkshire schools through their inspiring Teens Oral Health Campaign.

Smmmile Dental is visiting local secondary schools to promote oral hygiene and educate students on making healthier choices through their impactful ‘Inspire Assemblies.’

Leading this community-focused initiative are Hygiene Therapist Maisie Caton-Johnson and Business Development Manager Billie-Hannah Ryan. Together, they tackle pressing topics relevant to today’s youth, such as the dangers of vaping and energy drinks, fostering greater awareness and informed decision-making.

“Preventative dentistry education is crucial and needs to be a standard conversation in schools. Nearly half of adults over 30 suffer from some form of gum disease. If we can equip students with the knowledge to spot early warning signs, they can take steps to avoid becoming part of this statistic,” said Maisie Caton-Johnson, Hygiene Therapist.

As part of their school visits, Smmmile offers free dental health screenings using cutting-edge AI technology. This innovative approach captures a series of clinical photos via any smart device, delivering quick and accurate assessments.

While this technology is not yet widely available through the NHS, Smmmile’s use of it has already helped hundreds of children across Yorkshire access better oral health care.

“We’ve made our screening software freely accessible because we believe it’s a scalable, effective way to support children’s dental health. We recognise the challenges families face in accessing dental care, and we want to help bridge that gap,” said Billie-Hannah Ryan, Business Development Manager.

Smmmile’s campaign has already reached over 2,000 students, and the practice is committed to expanding its efforts. To further support their community, they offer preferential rates for pupils referred through the school initiative.

“Our goal is to visit every school in Yorkshire and beyond if necessary. Giving back to the community is at the heart of Smmmile’s vision and ethos. With practices in other parts of the UK, we’re ready to scale this initiative as long as the enthusiasm and positive feedback continue,” said Dr. Jon Hewitt, Principal Dentist.

With glowing reviews from educators and schools already booking follow-up visits for 2025, Smmmile Dental is bringing healthier smiles to the next generation. Could their campaign be coming to a school near you?
