Mirfield farm shop ‘beefs up’ the season of goodwill with prize-winning meat
A farm shop in Mirfield is ‘beefing up’ Christmas with some prize-winning meat after its recent purchase at Skipton Auction Mart.
In the run up to Christmas, Haigh’s Farm Shop, on Far Common Road, has been selling some prime beef, notably as roasts, to offer an alternative to the traditional turkey over the festive season and beyond.

The shop’s Charles Haigh was a multiple buyer at Skipton Auction Mart’s recent high profile Christmas primestock highlight, where leading retail butchers across the region compete to acquire top quality meat for their customers’ festive tables.
His haul included five prime cattle, among them the reserve female champion, a Limousin-x heifer home-bred in the Yorkshire Dales by Bordley’s John Stephenson, also recipient of the Dick Binns Memorial Trophy, awarded annually in memory of the late Saltaire butcher to the best Continental-x butchers’ heifer.
Beef from all purchases has been fully matured to maximise both taste and texture and has been available in all the popular cuts at Haigh’s Farm Shop, based at the family-run Elgrove Farm in Far Common Road.
Mr Haigh said: “It certainly beefs up our extensive Christmas offering.”
