Calder Vets, on Savile Road, launched remote video consultations to continue providing crucial access to their teams throughout the coronavirus (Covid-19) lockdown.

Calder Vets' sister practice Paragon Veterinary Referrals, in Wakefield, is also providing the video consultations in a bid to reassure pet owners during the Covid-19 crisis, after aligning with Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) guidelines to see only urgent and emergency cases at the practices.

“The health, safety and well-being of our patients, clients, team members and community is our main priority.

“While adhering to RCVS guidelines, during this time of social isolation and distancing we are committed to providing the highest levels of care to our patients and owners alike.

“In taking all possible steps to prevent the spread of Covid-19 we are delighted to introduce video consultations, helping to bring pet owners some reassurance from our trusted team when they most need it.”

The video consultations will allow vets to give general advice and updates on treatment for pets already in care.

The process will involve clients calling practice reception as usual in the first instance, to arrange a call with vets to establish whether a video consultation is appropriate.

The practices will liaise with clients to organise a suitable date and time, email confirmation and guidance on set-up ahead of appointments.
