Nick Pleasant, agent for Leeds-based NewRiver Retail Portfolio No.8 Ltd, described introducing an Aldi store into Dewsbury as “retail-led regeneration”.

The creation of the new store involves extending the existing Rishworth Centre, which is just outside town centre boundary of the ring road, and merging two car parks.

Committee chair Clr Steve Hall (Lab, Heckmondwike) commented: “I don’t really see any problems with this [application].

It was approved unanimously by the seven-member committee.
