Theatre group’s next show promises night with double the drama

A divorced couple who were once very much in love look back on their life together in the first of two plays to be performed by Dewsbury Arts Group next month.

Night’s Candles follows actors Fizz and Frank after they find themselves in a rambling garden, neither knowing how they arrived.

A young couple suddenly appear and begin to enact scenes from their past, forcing the pair to reflect on the decisions they made.

The humorous play by Hazel Wyld poses the question of whether true soulmates can ever really be separated.

Second on the bill is Purgatoria, an emotional and intellectual sequel to Ariel Dorfman’s Death and the Maiden.

Two inmates seeking release or resolution from institution, which may or may not be Purgatory.

It asks audiences to consider whether there can be forgiveness and reconciliation after the most monstrous deeds.

Tackling the issues of repentance, redemption and love, the powerful play is shocking and heartbreaking but still filled with hope.

In just three scenes is delivers a ferocious battle of wills that makes it a must-see production.

The double bill of plays will be performed at Dewsbury Artspace from Saturday March 8 to Saturday March 15, with the exception of Sunday March 9.

Performances will take place at the theatre in Lower Peel Street at 7.30pm.
