Review: Ghost at Leeds Grand Theatre

Ask anyone what they remember most about the film Ghost and they’re bound to cite the famous scene at the potter’s wheel.

Having forgotten anything else in the film, I had no idea what to expect from a musical retelling.

I had my doubts about whether the wizardry of the big screen could be recreated on stage, but these were dispelled as the plot gathered pace and stunning special effects were used to the full.

The audience was totally hooked as Sam (Stewart Clarke) passed through walls and levitated objects.

The tension of his desperate struggle was broken by a wonderful comic performance from Wendy Mae Brown as psychic Oda Mae Brown.

The response she received was rivalled only by David Roberts whose superb portrayal of deceitful Carl Bruner drew pantomime-style boos and hisses. It all made for a surprisingly enjoyable night.
