Wakefield playwright Janet Shaw premiers her new play ‘The Woman’ performed by Jaba Inc. in May first in Ossett and then Wakefield at the end of the month.

The piece is a deviation from the playwright’s usual genre. Janet is renowned for her work with northern comedy, drawing her inspiration from the funny situations we all face in everyday life.

It is a form of work that has stood her well with her plays being performed world wide as far as South Africa and only recently in New Zealand.

The play explores the innermost thoughts of a woman trying to remember the happier times from her past.

She confronts her inner self at different stages of her life and tries to come to terms with decisions she made and the paths she walked down.

These memories appear to her in the forms of visionary and auditory hallucinations and live singers add a haunting third dimension to a moving and thought provoking drama. The show is directed by Paul Troughton and is suitable for all ages. It is supported by the Alzheimer’s Society.

The cast features some very talented local young actors and they are all very excited to be performing in the premier of a play which it is hoped will stay in the hearts and minds of the audience for a long time.

Bradford Playhouse are keen to feature the play in their Spring/Summer programme and Jaba Inc hopefully will be performing in this wonderful community theatre on May 31 and June 1. (See upcoming editions of Go for confirmation of this).

Tickets for the Ossett performances can be booked on 01924 262948.
