Christmas show was a treat for all ages

LOOK OUT! Robin (Freddie Purdy), Goldilocks (Megan Wright), Uncle Charlie (Matthew Bailey) and Red Riding Hood (Millie Collins).

Red Riding Hood... And Robin! was a novel twist on two familiar fairytales, asking the audience to consider whether the characters they thought they knew so well were quite what they seem.

David Foxton’s clever script was quick-witted, fast-paced and full of laughs, giving the cast plenty to sink their teeth into.

Ben Telford was wonderful as the timid and misunderstood Wolfie, howling away in his prison cell in the opening scene.

And it’s been some time since I’ve seen a villain to match Matthew Bailey’s terrific Uncle Charlie.

Here was a truly big, bad wolf to get every member of the audience joining in with the booing and hissing.

It was great to see the youngest members of the cast holding their own, and at times giving the more experienced members of the group a run for their money.

Megan Wright was spot-on as spoilt rich kid Goldilocks, throwing tantrums and threatening to burst eardrums with her screams.

Freddie Purdy was hilarious as Robin – the schoolboy leader of a band of apparently imaginary men – and Millie Collins’ Red Riding Hood was a determined heroine we could all root for.

Catherine Horner and Jonathan Price proved to be a great comic pairing, whether delivering slapstick or pig-related puns.

And Stacey Waterworth and Steve Goddard were wonderful as Goldilocks’ indulgent mother and long-suffering father, firing comebacks at jokers in the audience without missing a beat.

The whole team deserves to be congratulated for this memorable and hugely entertaining production.
