The art of burlesque
And now a Birstall artist has used the sultry entertainment to inspire her drawings.
Jane Nicholson, a former student of Batley School of Art and Design, is showcasing a series of cheeky but tasteful images in Batley Library this month. Jane’s one-off drawings and stitched line work will appear in the Art Kiosk and explores the backstage world of burlesque.

Hide AdThe pictures show dancers preparing for their performances and awaiting the limelight, with the drama captured by the Yorkshire-based artist’s unique talent.
Specialising in depicting the female form, Jane uses screen printing, stitching and ink to create her line-based drawings, with no two pieces ever the same.
Jane, who grew up in Heckmondwike and attended the Holy Spirit and St John Fisher schools, will be displaying her work at Batley Library throughout November.
