It will be Christmas before we know it – and what better way to get into the festive spirit than a night at the theatre to see Scrooge the musical.

The show is the musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, written by Leslie Bricusse in 1992.

Tommy Steele takes the starring role as Scrooge the miser, who he has played since 2005.

Everybody knows Scrooge is a horrible old man but Tommy’s Scrooge is more naughty than nasty.

On his journey through the past, present and future we see his cold exterior crack until he can allow himself to enjoy Christmas with his family.

The set was fantastic and there were a few unexpected tricks that surprised the audience and left you wondering how they had been done.

The child stars of the cast were brilliant, and Gabriel Williams as Tiny Tim sang a lovely solo.

Of course, the show has a moral lesson, but it’s told with plenty of fun and Tommy Steele is wonderful as Scrooge.

Children and adults alike adored his performance, and leapt to their feet to give him a standing ovation at the end of the show.
