Show has the X-factor

Members of Buttershaw St Paul’s AODS are now well into rehearsals for their production of Return to the Forbidden Planet at St George’s Hall in January

The juke box musical, which includes around 25 hit songs of the 50s and 60s, involves the eccentric Doctor Prospero who invents the elusive X Factor formula which gives him the power to turn his wild imagination into vivid reality.

This rarely performed show evolved from a 1950s B class movie of the same name, which itself was loosely based on Shakespeare’s The Tempest and is popular with audiences of all ages.

Playing the part of Doctor Prospero is Phil Jowett (pictured) who joined the Society in 2003 for production of Mack and Mabel and has since played many supporting roles with Buttershaw, Spenborough Amateurs and other local societies. Profits from the production will be donated to local charities.

The show runs from January 22-26.
