Review: Titanic Spa, Linthwaite

Sitting outside in a swimsuit in the very fresh air of a crisp, cold November day, in a valley just four miles from Huddersfield, may not immediately strike anyone as the way to relax.

But when you and that swimsuit are actually soaking in a steaming and delightfully bubbly hot tub beside the majestic Titanic Spa, the stresses and strains of life simply dissolve. The hot tub is the latest addition to Titanic’s already impressive array of Aquatic treats, designed to sooth, steam and soak away every ounce of tension.

Regular spa-goers will no doubt have heard of Titanic Spa (so named because the converted mill building in which it is housed, was built in 1911). It’s a regular award-winner and recently scooped five accolades in the industry’s Spa Traveller Awards.

Attention to detail is a key component to the spa’s success. Staff are helpful, charming and knowledgeable and an aura of calm permeates throughout, thanks in large part to gentle lighting, warm aubergine colours and ambient music, which neither intrudes nor irritates, despite being on an obvious loop

Plentiful parking and a straightforward check-in and you’re armed with your itinerary for the day. There is plenty of information on what you need to bring (basically yourself and a swimsuit) and apart from booked times for lunch and treatments you are free to wander at will throughout the various spa areas. From the moment you enter those dark wood changing rooms and wrap yourself in your ridiculously fluffy towelling robe you feel completely cocooned.

The more active can hit the gym or put in a few lengths on the salt-regulated pool. Beside the pool are a couple of saunas and the hot tub is just outside.

But the big draw is the heat and ice experience including steam rooms, saunas, a warm aromatherapy room, foot spas, plunge pool, and ice room. There were enough rooms to ensure nowhere was ever too busy, even on a Sunday.

Next was treatment time. I opted for the new Comfort Zone facial 50 minute treatment - so relaxing I drifted off to sleep, whilst my husband (a spa novice) had a deep tissue massage.

Lunch was delicious choice of six mains of locally -sourced and inventive salads and light meals.. And after all that detoxing we rounded the day off with Mojitos’ in the brand new Titanic-inspired bar - the 1911 - both we and the drinks were chilled to perfection!

If you know someone who’d like to be wrapped in luxury this Christmas look no further - it’s the perfect indulgence.
