Mystery, intrigue and suspense from longest running show

And who better to write it than Agatha Christie?

I love Poirot and Miss Marple and there’s something really cosy about watching an episode in front of the fire with a cup of tea and a slice of cake.

So I jumped at the chance to catch The Mousetrap when it stopped off at the Leeds Grand theatre as part of its first UK tour since opening in the West End in 1952.

The Mousetrap tells the story of a group of people who end up snowed in at Monkswell Manor guest house.

A murder has taken place in London and police believe the murderer – and his next victims –are at Monkswell Manor, after a clue to the motive is found on the victim’s body.

The cast included some famous faces, such as Bruno Langley, who played Todd Grimshaw in Coronation Street; Karl Howman, who played Jacko in Brush Strokes, and Elizabeth Power, who played Arthur Fowler’s mistress Christine Hewitt in EastEnders.

The tradition of the play, famed for being the world’s longest running show with more than 24,000 performances, is that the identity of the killer is kept secret so as not to spoil the play for future audiences.

I won’t tell you whodunnit but the story keeps you guessing until the end! It was a fabulous tale which kept the audience enthralled with top quality performances – and it’s not too late to catch it at the Grand until Saturday.
