Museum counts down to blast-off for outer space adventures

Eureka! is going intergalactic from February 15 and inviting youngsters to join the crew of Space Station Eureka!

Interstellar story sessions, the science behind sending a rocket into space, astronaut aerobics and more are on the agenda for budding Buzz Aldrins until March 2.

Museum visitors can learn all about Jupiter and meet the team from Jetpack Journeys – a new iPhone and Android app that helps pre-school children discover the wonder of outer space, the solar system and each of the eight planets through play and exploration.

The fun exhibition leads up to National Astronomy Week, taking place March 1-8.

During that week, Jupiter will reach its highest point in the sky for many years. National Astronomy Week is held every few years to celebrate significant astronomical events, with Target Jupiter chosen as this year’s theme.

All Space is Ace! activities are free with standard museum admission – which is also an annual pass that allows all of the party paid for on the day of the first visit to return to the museum for free for the next 12 months.

Admission costs £10.95 for adults and children aged three and up, and £3.75 for toddlers aged one or two. Babies aged up to 11 months old go free.

The children’s museum is next to Halifax train station.
